This was another quick stopover in Denver for a few days. Took care of the yearly registration for the green car (my monthly storage cost has increased by 300% over the past year) and had fun showing Marce Casa Bonita and Meow Wolf. Casa Bonita is a historic family restaurant with cliff divers, a music show, face painting, and a shooting gallery (among other attractions) that was recently restored by the creators of the television show South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, at great personal expense after the original venue shut down. The original Casa Bonita had been an iconic destination restaurant during my childhood (and many other Coloradoans, including Trey Parker and Matt Stone). The new owners did an impressive job of not only restoring but surpassing the decor, spirit, and environment of the original Casa Bonita restaurant – it’s much better than it used to be, and it was fun to go there with Marce and my friend Dan, who was there for his first time. Dan didn’t join Marce and me for Meow Wolf, a multi-story art installation you can spend a few hours in. It’s a great place to take photos.

My 79-year-old father fell off a horse in October while riding a horse in Wyoming. He broke his neck and had a severe concussion. The path to recovery was a difficult one over the course of the following months. As my brother and sister were stateside, they took on the majority of the support operations along with my father’s wife, while he was nursed back to health by hospital medical staff. It was a grueling and arduous path to recovery for everyone involved. To show support and help orient and align the family to the next steps in his continuing recovery, my siblings and I visited my father in early December. At that time, it was a difficult process to confront the changes in our father and his life since the accident. A lot of good did come from our visit, though I believe most of it was the time my siblings and I were able to spend with each other. I was unexpectedly alerted by my HOA that my bathroom was leaking water onto the adjacent, downstairs unit of my apartment building. Estimated costs on repair were high and it seemed like a very good probability of me getting fleeced were I not present to facilitate repairs. I returned back to Denver on short notice to remedy the situation and take care of other loose ends that had been unresolved in my hurried preparation to abandon home two months prior. I ended up not only repairing the bathroom but having it refinished — apparently improvements I make while it’s a rental property are tax deductible; in addition to learning that I’m also learning the pain of locating bathroom fixtures (what did people do before Google image search??). While I was back in the states I popped up to Wyoming and had some good Peryam Ranch times with the family and dog.
